She's annoyed at the larger scar (he had to make a broader cut to get everything, taking both nodes on the left side), but after a few years no one notices a thyroid scar (my mother's had one all my life--I always thought it was just a skin line as a kid, nothing unusual). Despite what they say, there is no such thing as routine surgery. As one cartoon character said recently "see that pointed thing she is holding? Do not allow it to enter your body."
