We didn't have much of a Halloween as we spent it in a Starbucks doing, respectively, homework and grading. Maybe that's scary enough....

It's a good question, and large publishing doesn't have a fucking clue. Hell, ebook standards just changed--again. (Yay epub 3! It has HTML 5, which is totally better than 4). Though, there are always those sneaky small companies offering mysterious and wicked "author services."

Oh. And there are totally boobies.

Your windbloggery reminded me of a discussion I had in the middle of the woods after a rain storm. A programmer friend and I discussed why people don't steal shit if buying it is just as easy. There's a good lesson there that the DRM knuckle draggers have yet to figure out.

I forgot to mention that I also listen while doing mindless chores like painting, yardwork, etc. Although I can't listen to the Pratchett books--even though they're well done. Books with humor I have to read or I miss stuff. I also forgot to mention that there are a few literary authors whose audible books are also worth the listen, notably Haruki Murakami. (He doesn't read them, but the readers who do are good). And I just finished listening to David Mitchell's the Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. Maybe its books set in an authentic Asian setting. I bet Stephenson books would be good as audio, too. And then there's the whole Patrick O'Brian series (when read by the zesty Patrick Tull).

Running is a good time to listen. I loaned a set of Terry Pratchett tapes (yes, tapes, he's been writing that long), so she could listen to them while driving to Seattle, as she often did. She returned them a week later, saying she got so caught up in the story she forgot to watch the road.

I guess the intent of the moby-CD array is so they can record the voices in lossless HD stereo. Of course, there are very few people who sit in their audio room listening to original recordings of "The Automobile Girls in Minnesota". Most everybody else listens the way we do, through 1/2" earbuds while doing something else, or the was my friend does, in a car with all weather tires and a leaky doorframe. In addition, I suspect the kind of people who listen to audiobooks are (a) like me, old, or (b) like you, younger, but recently returned from a Spinal Tap concert.

The point being, all those extra quality bits are being wasted, and MP3 or OGG is a perfectly acceptable way to do things. Of course, they probably couldn't charge as much.

Parapraxis is a word invented to translate the German, “fehlleistung,”

I am reminded of one US diplomat's complaint, back in the 80's, about use of the word "detent". He wanted to know why we had to come up with some new foreign term when there was a perfectly good American word we could use already: "rapprochement"

Ah, if you want something truly portable, try this:

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/boingboing/iBag/~3/fdJ5HgsC2IQ/thumbdrive-sized-pc.html

Of course, you'll have to provide your own keyboard and display, but think of the cool factor when you open your coat and proceed to assemble a PC right there on the Max

My original comment on your short entry was: "Looks OK to me". Your spam defense lasers decided that was too short of a comment, so I needed to say something more. I ran around, dodging fire, while I tried to think of something. Here's the comment I would have written had I time before class to write a longer and more insightful comment: The logo text looks fine, given that you are using a serif style font with those little platform things on the top of the non-curvilinear letters.

This was actually to let you know that I refreshed my RSS feed, so you can check what kind of signal got through to you.

Whew.

I also still have the terrible habit of revising several drafts after I've published but before I'm done. I didn't finish till right after your comment.
I know the Google RSS feed reader shows images. It doesn't show any header image, which is fine, really. I'm just starting to play around a little with images on the site, doing whatever doesn't take much effort to give it more color and personality.
